KUYUMCUKENT
The story of Kuyumcukent began in 1988 when a group of industry professionals decided that it was necessary to improve and develop the infrastructure of the jewelry sector and create collective production areas based on jewelry manufacturing that were compatible with human health. In 1988, they established the Istanbul Jewelry Artisans Collective Workplace Construction Cooperative. After six years of searching for land, the area where the construction of Elektrokent began in Yenibosna was transferred to the cooperative with the intervention of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the mayor of Istanbul at the time. Part of the Workshop Block, one of the two main blocks of the Kuyumcukent complex, was constructed between 1996 and 2000. Following the second tender based on the “fixed-price turnkey” method signed with Baytur Construction Contracting Inc. in February 2001, construction of the remaining sections of the Workshop Block and the entire Store Block commenced in July 2001.
In March 2005, with the completion of our “provisional acceptance” acceptance work, we took delivery of the Kuyumcukent Workshop and Store blocks from the contractor. From this date onwards, we began handing over the keys to our cooperative partners. Our business owner partners/tenants who have received their keys are currently carrying out their moving and settling-in activities. Settlement procedures are being carried out in accordance with the “Decoration and Installation Specifications” prepared by Kuyumcukent Management Incorporated Company (KİAŞ), established by our cooperative members and responsible for the management and operation of the complex. Our workshop-owning partners require a significant amount of time for relocation and settlement activities due to the technical differences in the interior design and layout of their workplaces.
Within the past year, the occupancy rate of the Kuyumcukent Workshop Blocks has increased, and transportation issues have been resolved. On December 23, 2006, the Kuyumcukent Workshop Block and Köprülü Intersection were officially opened with the participation of Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan.
